Food Photography
I love food photography. I love the colors, the textures, the composition and the joy of seeing a beautifully composed dish. But why does it resonate with me? I have been reflecting on the appeal and have a few thoughts.
I am scientist by trade.
I have a degree in biologiy and have been a biologist for over 36 years. Food photography touches that aspect of my life by combining chemsitry, physics, and biology to create a hollistic meal that fulfills my basic need to eat. Eating is survival.
I love to cook.
Maybe because of the thought above, I also love to cook; especially Mexican food. Mexican food represents my genetic and cultural identity and presents it to the world. Spicy, colorful, and complex sauces the engulf a protein in a slow braising simmer, imparting flavors and texture to a delicious meal. In my life I have combined the recipes from my mother with the teachings of my favorite book: The Professional Chef by the Culinary Institute of America. And yes, I do take picture of my own food.
I love photography
Photography has been a part of life since chilhood. I have always enjoyed the technical and artistic values of taking a picture. I also like to look at pictures. I find it fascinating that a moment in time was captures on some type of media. Mostly electronic now which is even more amazing. To go back and see somemthing that has already occurred the way it was at that moment of capture.
Yes, I love food photogrpahy. For all the reason above and probably more that I have not even mentioned. My food photography captures what I love and refects the harmonic details of light, texture, and composition. If you have any questions about my food photogrpahy or would like me to capture your food, send me a message. Would love to discuss with you.
